About Melissa
I received my Bachelors of Education through the University of Alberta in 2008. I spent six years teaching and realized that I wanted to expand my employment and began working as a Wellness Facilitator in four different schools in Medicine Hat. Being a Wellness Facilitator I was able to work with elementary aged children focusing on their mental health well-being in small group settings and one-on-one. This position than lead me to become the Executive Director of a local youth non for-profit.
During my four years in this position, I worked with youth ages 11-18. This is where I found my passion. I absolutely loved working with such a diverse group of youth. The focus of this non for-profit was teaching youth how to be resilient by over coming the obstacles that so many of them faced rather it be their own mental health, socio-economic barriers, or lack of positive role models in their lives.
I currently work full-time at Big Brothers Big Sisters. In the evenings and on weekends I work with Sonita Goehring and Joeleene Brassard as their Behavioural Consultant and help Co-Facilitate Food Processors.
When I am not busy with work I am at home with my husband and two dogs. In my spare time I love to paint, craft and bake!
